It has been revealed that Colin Firth has joined the cast of Mary Poppins Returns.
Joining the likes of Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Firth is set to play William Weatherall Wilkins – the president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank – in the upcoming sequel to Disney’s 1964 musical.
Other details about the film have also been revealed, including further information about the plot. Set 25 years after the original film, the movie will follow the older versions of Jane and Michael Banks (Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw), as they suddenly receive a surprise visit from their former nanny.
Blunt will be taking on the lead role made famous by Julie Andrews, while Lin Manuel-Miranda will be portraying a street lamplighter named Jack – in a nod to Dick Van Dyke’s chimney-sweep, Bert. It has also been reported that Meryl Streep will also star in the film, as Poppins’ cousin.
Directed by Rob Marshall, Mary Poppins Returns is set to hit UK cinemas on 25th December 2018.
