The Weeknd’s new album was confirmed this week to be a tribute to David Bowie, and also features collaborations with Daft Punk.
Many had speculated the artist’s newest album, entitled Starboy was in homage to the legendary performer who passed away earlier this year. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the artist confirmed this, saying: “I just love Bowie, I think he’s the ultimate inventor.” The album title comes from one of the already revealed album tracks, alongside ‘False Alarm’, which the artist released in late September.
He also discussed collaborating with Daft Punk, adding: “Their studio is like a spaceship, there’s a lot of gear, but the way they make music, the way they explain it, is very cinematic.” He continued that “It’s like they’re reading a page out of a novel— ‘We want to make sure that at the end, it feels like the sun’s coming up, and maybe there’s a car chase.’ They can get technical, but it was interesting how they visualise making music.”
The Weeknd’s newest album Starboy is due to be released on 25th November 2016. Listen to one of the album’s tracks below:
