ITV’s Broadchurch is back for a third series due to air in 2017, with the new teaser trailer confirming the return of both David Tennant as DI Alec Hardy, and Olivia Coleman as DS Ellie Miller.
Although it has been two years since the airing of Season 2, creator Chris Chibnall has confirmed that the new series of the hit show will be the last instalment of the crime drama set to hit our screens. After this, Chibnall will take over the role as show-runner for BBC sci-fi staple Doctor Who.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Chibnall said: “We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me.”
After the mixed reviews of Season 2, many are holding out hope for the new series although storyline details are firmly under wraps for the time being. Chibnall did confirm though that the 2017 series would see the return of many previous characters, including those played by Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchanan.
