Philip Pullman has today confirmed a sequel trilogy to His Dark Materials, entitled The Book of Dust.
The first novel of the sequel trilogy is due to be released in October, seventeen years after the release of the final installment, The Amber Spyglass. The His Dark Materials trilogy has already sold over 17.5 million copies and the triad translated into forty different languages.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today, Pullman commented that the new series was: “an ‘equel’, adding, “It’s a different story which begins roughly 10 years before His Dark Materials and ends roughly 10 years after.”Pullman also confirmed that the story would focus on Lyra Belacquia, the original series heroine and will be focused on her life as baby, before skipping to when she is twenty.
He expressed delight at his newest creation stating:”I know from their letters and tweets that my readers have been waiting patiently (mostly) for The Book of Dust for a long time.” He finished by confirming, “It gives me great pleasure and some excitement at last to satisfy their curiosity (and mine) about this book.”
