A new teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming series of Doctor Who, also revealing the date of the show’s return.
The tenth series of the BBC One sci-fi show will premiere on Saturday 15th April, with an episode titled: ‘A Star In Her Eye’. The ‘her’ in question is likely the show’s new companion, Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
The teaser trailer, titled ‘A Time For Heroes’, is voiced over by Mackie, and sees Bill with the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) walking through what looks like an exploding university corridor. The series is hinted to start with Bill, a cafeteria assistant, meeting the Doctor working as a university professor.
However, the trailer ends on a slightly ominous note, with Bill hinting at a possible tragic end for her new character. ““I’m having the time of my life – and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Even if it kills me.” Could Doctor Who kill off a companion? Previous companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) died in Series 9, but was revived just two episodes later. The last companion to stay dead was Adric, played by Matthew Waterhouse, who perished at the hands of the Cybermen in 1982’s Earthshock.
The upcoming series of Who has been confirmed as Peter Capaldi’s final as the Twelfth Doctor, and is showrunner Steven Moffat’s last at the helm as well. Doctor Who has been commissioned for an eleventh series, under the watch of Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.
