In a Very, Frankly, Distressing move, Netflix has decided to renew ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ for a gloomy second season.
Netflix UK and Ireland posted a cryptic video on their YouTube channel teasing the new miserable series, using highlighted letters to direct unwitting viewers towards the website www.vastlyfrighteningdecision.com . The website contains a typewritten message from Lemony Snicket, which the Netflix UK and Ireland account have also tweeted, warning viewers that the new season will be unpleasant Viewing, Frequently Depressing, and as much of a threat to their happiness as the last one.
The show is based upon Snicket’s thirteen books, collectively known under the same name, which tell of the misery and woe of the Baudelaire Orphans. The first season of the dishearteningly popular show covered the events of the first four books, so if the next series continues in this Vastly Flawed Direction, the next series should adapt the next four: The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, and The Hostile Hospital.
‘I hope you’re happy,’ Snicket says, as he ends his note. ‘Because you won’t be, ever again.’
