The University of Southampton’s student-run radio station Surge Radio will be commencing a 48- Hour Marathon broadcast live outside the Students’ Union building on the University campus.
The Surge 48 Hour Broadcast starting at 00:00 on Thursday 23rd March, and will end at 00:00 on Saturday 25th March.
Armed with red noses, ready for Red Nose Day itself on Friday, the 40-strong team of volunteers aim to raise £480 in association with the University’s RAG (Raise and Give) for Comic Relief. They will partaking in a series of competitions, on-air challenges, and games, whilst the overnight teams will be attempting to keep spirits high while braving the cold.
Programme Controller of the station, Polly Marquis commented on the event, saying: ‘We’ve got such a great, hardworking team together for our 48-hour marathon – I’m so excited to see how much money we can raise after all the effort we’ve all put in!’
Cameron Meldrum, Surge regular and the Vice-President of Democracy and Creative Industries of Union Southampton added, ‘I’m very excited to see Surge are back at it again for their 48 Hour Marathon! It’s great that they are doing this for such a good cause, and I can’t wait to hear the amazing content they come up with.’
The marathon will be broadcast live on surgeradio.co.uk, but can also be followed across Surge’s social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, using the hashtag #surge48.
