AlunaGeorge have returned with their new track featuring Jamaican recording artist Popcaan. Their mix of electro and Popcaan’s lively vocals is contagious and this is bound to be a popular song due to the smooth tune and flawless progressions.
Aluna Francis’ innocent voice works well with the simplistic backing tracking, which builds with drum’n’bass and finally gets to the drop which involves synths that make it hard not to dance to this song. The duo’s familiar mix of R’n’B and garage works well here to make a really cool dance track. The repetitions of “I’m in control” don’t even get irritating or boring because this is a track that’s meant for dancing and will be fun for everyone to sing along to. Even Popcaan’s quick, unclear interjections just add fun to the track and keep the groove going.
As Popcaan worked with Jaime xx on his popular song ‘I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)’ listeners can expect that same kind of cool rhythm and infectiousness. He brings a fresh energy to AlunaGeorge which makes them even more easy to dance to due to his beats and vocal additions that may just open AlunaGeorge to a new audience. Although this short track doesn’t have the time to experiment and grow like maybe ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ does, ‘I’m In Control’ makes a pretty impressive go at it at, managing to build up to the drop and allows Popcaan times for a couple of verses of his own.
If you like the duos previous tracks, you’ll like this new song from their upcoming album I Remember, due later this year. This is the perfect single to get fans excited about the rest of their album as it contains everything fans will love: synth, drums, simplistic rhythm as well as the fresh addition of Popcaan’s raps.
‘I’m In Control’ is out now via Island Records.
