This week brings with it Meghan Trainor’s sophomore album, but it isn’t all doom and gloom. Yak release their debut Alas Salvation, and there are singles from Secret Company, MNEK and Ladyhawke.

Meghan Trainor regretfully returns this week with her follow-up to 2015’s Title. Rising to fame with the problematic ‘All About That Base’, her sophomore album Thank You succeeds the release of ‘Mom’ (featuring her Mum), and ‘No’. Out via Epic Records.

‘Bonkers trio’ Yak are set to release their debut album, Alas Salvation. Having already shared a video for the album’s opener, ‘Victorious (National Anthem)’, the debut follows successful touring from the three-piece. Frontman Oli Burslem explains, “I was trying to make it a slightly schizophrenic record.” Out via Yak.

Up and coming Chelmsford four-piece, Secret Company, are releasing their first single of the year, ‘Midnight Rush’, in the wake of their debut EP Saviour. The track is dark with an intense build up setting the scene for a late night drive. The band have recently supported Eliza and the Bear and Coasts. Out Via So Recordings.

Since the success of ‘Never Forget You’ featuring Zara Larsson, MNEK is also back with latest track ‘At Night‘. This will be the star’s first solo single since his debut EP Sweet Talk. His full length album is due for release later this year with ‘At Night’ rumoured to be its leading track. Out Via Virgin EMI Records.

Ladyhawke is also back, releasing her first single, ‘The River’ this Friday since 2012. Having suffered from anxiety and alcoholism, the latest synth-pop track is a real sign of recovery for Pip Brown. The new album Wild Things will be released this year on June 3. Out Via EMI.
