‘For The First Time’ is debut single from All The Young, an alternative rock quartet from Staffordshire, whose thumping sound and lyrical mastery has earnt them a record contract with Warner before their first full length record has even been released.
And it’s no mystery why. ‘For the First Time’ is simply a great rock record, with a radio friendly edge that is going to cement its pace on summertime playlists everywhere. It opens with a series of driving drum beats that are soon joined by a killer of a bass line – from the word go, you are in nonthreatening territory, and you know what to expect from the foursome. But that is by no means a criticism. What you expect is a fantastic, cheerful song and All The Young deliver in bucketloads. The guitar that you are then greeted by slides over the top beautifully, and the vocals when they appear are simple and decisive. Lead Ryan Dookey has a great voice, one that falls somewhere between The Gaslight Anthem and Hundred Reasons, and is even a little bit Gallagher-esque at times – it such an obviously English sound that you are immediately right at home.
Although it is likely that this track will be lapped up by media-moguls everywhere, ‘For The First Time’ is an inoffensive summer tune that does not get old. If their second release comes anywhere near their first, then they can almost certainly start investing in a Ferrari each. Well, maybe not, but suffice it to say that the future certainly looks bright for All The Young.
All The Young are: Ryan Dooley (vocals/guitar), Jack Dooley (bass / backing vocals), Dave Cartwright (guitar), Will Heaney (drums), and ‘For The First Time’ is released April 4th. Be sure to catch them on their Summer tour, where they will be playing Southampton’s Unit on May 28th
