Essex based singer-songwriter Arthur Walwin’s has steadily been gaining a loyal following over the past year with the support of radio DJs including Fearne Cotton and Nick Grimshaw, and ‘Someone Who Knows’, the first single from his forthcoming debut album is a polished and radio-ready pop-rock number that should widen his fanbase even more.
Walwin wastes no time on a long, complicated intro with this track, and we’re immediately thrown in with a blast of rocky guitars and drums, which segues into a slightly slower verse with added piano accompaniment. The song is very much in the style of arena filling rockers You Me At Six and it comes as no great surprise that Walwin’s producer Matt O’Grady has worked with them as well. This whole thing has a mid-tempo feel very similar to many artists of this genre, complete with the sort of anthemic chorus deployed by so many of them, and it could do with sounding a bit more original.
Despite this minor complaint however, there’s no doubt that ‘Someone Who Knows’ is a slick and catchy tune, perfect for singing along to. Watch out for it dominating the airwaves near you soon.
