2013 has been a big year for gothic rockers Fearless Vampire Killers, what with headlining the Red Bull stage at Download festival, opening for the 2013 Kerrang tour and recording their second album in America with William Control. Somehow, in the midst of all that, they’ve found time to record spooky new single ‘All Hallows Evil’, and very good it is too.
It’s clear we’re in for a treat from the first few bars of the song, as an insanely catchy opening riff squeals out over thunderous drums. It’s a song that promises to be stuck in your head for days before the first line is sung, and the song really builds as vocalists Kier and Laurence belt out their tragic tale of love, death and vengeance from beyond the grave, their voices swinging wildly from gentle crooning to furious howls and back again, in an astonishing display of vocal range.
Overall ‘All Hallows Evil’ is brilliant, catchy enough for the casual listener, but heavy enough for hardcore rock fans too. It might be perfect for Halloween, but a song this good should be a firm fixture on anyone’s playlist all year round.
