Londoner Katy B has been away working on her second album, Little Red, and if ‘Crying for No Reason’ is anything to go by, it looks set to be one to listen out for.
Synth-filled but very stripped back in comparison to many of her other singles; Katy B has created what can only be described as an electro-ballad.
Underpinned by some weighty piano chords, ‘Crying for No Reason’ showcases Katy B’s vocals wonderfully. Lyrically, it has substance too; addressing issues about mental health and gaining recognition for bringing such an important issue to a mainstream audience.
Although it’s not as instantly memorable as her earlier material, ‘Crying for No Reason’ shows a marked growth in Katy B’s work, and still manages to be something that you can dance along to.
Dry those tears, Katy, this is a fantastic single.
