After a series of cryptic clues on social media, Taylor Swift announced that she’d be holding a live stream on Yahoo on Monday the 19th. The buzz around it was huge, but nobody could have suspected what would happen. Taylor debuted her comeback single, and instead of the country-crossover we’ve come to love, Taylor’s completely altered her sound and gone full-blown pop princess. And it’s brilliant.
On the live stream Taylor premiered ‘Shake It Off’ the first single from her highly anticipated fifth album, 1989. With a saxophone riff leading the melodic changes throughout, a drum line that canters forward (meaning the track doesn’t drag) and a half rap/half spoken bridge, Swift’s completely transformed her sound. Yet the lyrics that hit back at the hate that Swift gets from the press are just as feisty as always, showing Swift has retained some of that old sass that made her so popular. With a killer chorus that you’ll be singing along to after half a listen, Taylor’s back with a bang.
1989 is available for pre-order now, and will be released on October the 27th through Big Machine Records.
