‘Love Me Like You Do’ is the new single from Ellie Goulding. Written for the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film, the song will feature both in the film and on its soundtrack.
The song plays true to Goulding’s distinct musical style, where synthetic bass, piano notes and soft breathy vocals layer to create a somewhat mystical, ethereal feeling. The song’s overall mood is strongly reminiscent of the sounds of both her first album Bright Lights, and 2013’s Halycon Days, and is for the most part pleasant if somewhat unexciting listening. Mostly enjoyably, however, the song gradually builds momentum. Verses steadily become more energetic and, embodied with sensual lyrics and emotion, come to a heady and rhythmic culmination.
Though predictable, ‘Love Me Like You Do’ is nonetheless a highly enjoyable song, the undeniably sultry energy of which is complimented by the music video, which contains scenes from the upcoming film in which it will feature.
