Welcome back to our round up of the best of cinema, showing this week at your student cinema! And with an amazing ten films in the line up this week, you’re in for a real treat.
So what have we got lined up for you I hear you cry? Well we kick things off this week with crime thriller Closed Circuit, before taking a trip to Beirut for Zaytoun in partnership with The Phoenix and rounding off the week with the breathtaking drama The Selfish Giant and the fun Don Jon on Sunday. And that’s before we’ve even mentioned our amazing Day of Disney on Saturday.
Tuesday 11th February at 7pm: Closed Circuit
When a London market goes up in a terrorist attack, the struggle to bring the attacker to justice begins. As the defence team assembles, made up of former lovers Martin Rose (Eric Bana) and Claudia Simmons-Howe (Rebecca Hall), they have to deal with secret evidence and the knowledge of a sinister conspiracy that threatens to derail their ‘professional relationship’. Refreshingly different from the rest of this week’s line up, this is a film not to be missed.
Wednesday 12th February at 7.30pm: Zaytoun
Our film in partnership with the Phoenix this week is Israeli thriller, Zaytoun. It’s 1982 and the war with Lebanon is raging when an Israeli fighter pilot is shot down over Beirut and captured by the Palestinians. With the help of a young Palestinian refugee, they both embark on a journey to cross the border back to the place where they call home.
Saturday 15th February at 1pm: A Day of Disney
This is the big one. Following last year’s phenomenal Pixar vs. Dreamworks Movie Marathon everyone was crying out for more. And this time we bring you six of the best Disney movies of all time as voted by you! We’re stacking The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Mulan, The Lion King, Aladdin and Tangled back to back all day long for your entertainment!
Tickets are available now from the Union Films website, for an amazing £10 or only £8 if you hold a season or year pass! And to sweeten the deal, the first 100 ticket-buyers get a free Disney goody bag on top of the usual event T-shirt – it doesn’t get much better than this. So what are you waiting for?
Sunday 16th February at 5pm: The Selfish Giant
Featuring powerful performances from all involved, this modern fable centres on two thirteen year old best friends, Arbor and Swifty, and their experiences collecting for local scrap-dealer Kitten. A truly charming tale that explores greed and friendship, it has rightly been met with critical acclaim across the world and you can catch this brilliant tale right here.
Sunday 16th February at 8pm: Don Jon
To finish off the week we’ve got romantic comedy Don Jon written, directed and starring the amazing Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jon Martello, a guy looking for love but thwarted by his unrealistic expectations, gained from a lifetime of pornography use. Meanwhile Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is being held back by her own expectations of Hollywood knights-in-shining-armour. What will happen when these two meet? Make sure you come along to find out!
A truly amazing line up is in store this week, so make sure that you keep up to date with all things Union Films right here, on our website, or on Facebook and Twitter.
