A trailer has finally been released for Richard Linklater’s coming-of-age movie Boyhood, which has been 12 years in the making. The film focuses on the lives of a divorced couple (Patricia Arquette and regular Linklater collaborator Ethan Hawke) as they raise their son Mason. Played by Ellar Coltrane, the story follows Mason’s relationship with his parents as he grows from a young boy into an adult.
Coltrane was chosen by Linklater – also the writer of the movie – when he was six years old, with the actors and crew coming together to shoot the film for a few weeks every year from 2002 until 2013. Arguably one of the most ambitious films ever made, Boyhood debuted at Sundance Film Festival in January earlier this year to glowing reviews from critics. It has been tipped as a strong contender for awards season next year, and will undoubtedly make a star out of Ellar Coltrane.
