Future of X-Men franchise confirmed

Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of the X-Men franchise, revealed to Total Film this weekend more news about the upcoming instalments in the X-Men film franchises.

It looks like the next instalment in the franchise focusing on Wolverine is set to film back to back with 2016’s X-Men Apocalypse. The next solo movie featuring Wolverine is yet to receive a name, but it set to be released in cinemas March 3rd 2017. This comes together to create a packed shooting schedule for the franchise and producers, and also for Hugh Jackman who plays the titular character.

Alongside this news, Donner also revealed that talks with Channing Tatum had concluded, and confirmed that the actor will be taking on the role of Gambit, also known as Remy Le Beau, on the big screen, saying that ‘he’s a rogue,  Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy Le Beau, and he can handle the action.’ She also emphasised the fact that Tatum is from the South of America, and the links that Gambit has to New Orleans. The role has previously been acted by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so it will be interesting to see how the producers get around this fact, given that 20th Century Fox treats all of the X-Men franchise movies as one single continuity.

Meanwhile, a new clip has been released on line from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, which features Nicholas Hoult’s Beast, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released in UK cinemas Monday 19th May.
