Albums
The Kooks – Listen
This week will see The Kooks’ release their fourth studio album, titled Listen. The LP is the band’s follow-up to Junk of the Heart, which critically – and according to the UK album chart – wasn’t as successful as their previous albums Inside In/Inside Out and Konk which peaked at first and second positions, respectively. To date, Listen has spawned two singles; ‘Down’ which was the album’s promotional track and ‘Around Town’ which is accompanied by a Luc Besson and Quentin Tarantino inspired music video. Watch the video for ‘Forgive and Forget’, the next single which will be released on 1st September alongside the upcoming record, Listen.
Maroon 5 – V
Also arriving this week is Maroon 5’s fifth album, V. The album will feature recent singles ‘Maps’ and ‘Animals’ as well as a collaboration with Gwen Stefani titled ‘My Heart is Open’ which was co-written by singer-songwriter Sia. The new album sees the return of long-time keyboardist Jesse Carmichael after his absence from the band’s previous album, Overexposed. Maroon 5 are set to play at this year’s iTunes Festival on 11th September, and will be supported by Matthew Koma. The band’s forthcoming record will be available to purchase from 1st September in the UK.
Singles
Sam Smith – ‘I’m Not The Only One’
Sam Smith’s upcoming single, ‘I’m Not The Only One’, is taken from the singer-songwriter’s number one début album, which was released earlier this year. The new single is the fourth track to be lifted from the album, following ‘Lay Me Down’, ‘Money on My Mind’ and ‘Stay With Me’, with the latter two topping the charts upon their release. After winning the BRIT Critics’ Choice Award this year, Smith has since gained worldwide success where his album landed in second place in the US. Watch the new video below, which features Glee actor, Dianna Agron.
The Script – ‘Superheroes’
With a career beginning in 2008, The Script are back in 2014 with their latest single, ‘Superheroes’. The track is the lead single from the Irish band’s upcoming fourth studio album, a follow-up to their début self-titled album, Science & Faith and #3, the former two reaching number one in the UK. With the band’s most recent two albums’ lead singles having topped the UK charts (‘For the First Time’ and ‘Hall of Fame’) there is a lot of pressure on the upcoming single’s commercial performance. Check out the uplifting, catchy track below, which is available to buy tomorrow.
