On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… Father ‘Billie Joe’ Christmas…
It’s the time of year to get festive, so that means mince pies, Christmas decorations, and the inevitable Christmas songs plaguing the radio stations, shopping centres, music channels and the like. Whether you love or hate the festive season, it is difficult not to become wrapped up in the songs. People hum ‘Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer’ absent mindedly whilst claiming to hate this time of year. The simple fact it, nothing is more infectious about Christmas than the music.
Which is why, here at The EDGE, we are taking a rather different look at musical festivities. It is the time of Christmas number ones where withered pop stars rip apart classic festive tunes (Cascada’s cover of ‘Last Christmas’ springs to mind), so what better way to look at Christmas than getting Santa himself to tear up the airwaves covering a track from a trio of withered rock stars?
So, what opens as a trio of reindeer singing A-Capella in a rather lovely manner, soon gives way to a festive cover, of Green Day’s ‘Basket Case’. It’s about time Santa makes him claim in the musical world.
