The award-winning LOpSoc return to the Annex Theatre this week, as they prepare for their summer show H.M.S. Pinafore. This afternoon, I was fortunate enough to watch the confident and buoyant cast in action.
Considering the quality of their previous shows, I was unsurprisingly impressed with their efforts today, especially in relation to the extraordinary standard of the cast’s vocals. From entering the room, it was clear that this large cast have exceptional comradery and togetherness, which translated effortlessly into their performance. With a powerful ensemble, infectious musical numbers, and some special principals to look out for, H.M.S. Pinafore is certainly one you don’t want to miss!
I spoke briefly to co-director Joe Hand who seemed animated for the week ahead:
What has been your favourite aspect of the rehearsal process?
My favourite aspect of the rehearsal process was the last few weeks: it was ten times more stressful but just as rewarding to see the show finally coming together!
How does H.M.S. Pinafore differ to other shows you’ve been involved in?
This show has been different from any other as it was my first as a director, which has been a really steep learning curve.
And finally, sum up the show in three words.
Outstandingly, fantastically British!
So get yourselves down to The Annex Theatre for 19.30 between 6th and 9th May to watch LopSoc in action! Tickets can be reserved here.
