Game of Death is one of the latest releases from Stage 6 Films, Sony’s B-movie department that turns out cheap trash at an incredible rate, producing up to 15 features per year. This awful straight-to-DVD dud sums up the quality of most of their output.
Wesley Snipes plays a special ops agent, charged with the task of bringing down an arms dealer and his financiers. Predictably, things don’t go according to plan. Lots of shooting ensues, a lot of it needlessly indiscriminate and vicious, and incompetent director Giorgio Serafini sacrifices characterisation for low-rent action.
There’s also a horrid scene where Snipes gets to intimidate a group of mentally ill people when he needs to escape a hospital. This is brutish, brainless garbage, and also rather boring.
Game of Death (2010), directed by Giorgio Serafini, is available on DVD and Blu-ray from Studio Canal and Optimum Releasing, certificate 18.
