As the sister of Bestival, one of the UK’s most popular music festivals, Camp Bestival is an event not to be missed this summer! If you’re a fan of beautiful, boutique festivals bursting with activities and attractions then this is the festival for you. Winner of the Best Family Festival Award 2013, Camp Bestival promises a relaxed yet fun filled weekend.
Set in the grounds of the beautiful Lulworth Cove Castle in Dorset, Camp Bestival is a family focused festival with plenty of activities to occupy children. But this doesn’t mean that it’s exclusively for families; there’s so much to do that festival goers of any age are sure to be satisfied all weekend. “Something for everyone is our unspoken motto” says the festival’s founder, Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank.
Last year’s music lineup included, among others, London Grammar, Clean Bandit and Gabrielle Aplin while the comedy line-up saw performances from QI’s Alan Davies and Ian Stone. This year’s festival will be headlined by electronic dance duo Basement Jaxx alongside Sinead O’Connor, Laura Mvula and American hip hop trio De La Soul. In addition to the main line-up, the weekend will include DJ performances from the festival’s founder Rob Da Bank and acts including Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Wilkinson.
In addition to music, there will also be comedy acts to keep revellers entertained all weekend. Mock the Week’s Milton Jones will be the headline comedian, joined by Ben Norris and winner of the Writer’s Guild Award for Comedy, Colin Hoult. Speaking about the comedy line up, Rob da Bank, said: “The Camp Bestival comedy department have been slaving over a hot keyboard bringing in some of the funniest names on the scene at the moment.”
Lovers of literature will also be spoiled for choice by the Guardian Literary Institute at Camp Bestival. This year’s festival will feature over 50 speakers; authors, poets, scientists, philosophers and journalists. Festival goers will have the chance to chat with authors and speakers and pick up signed books.
With so much entertainment on offer, visitors are bound to be hungry! This year will feature the festival’s first appearance from The Feast Collective, a celebration of artisan food producers from around the UK which is described enticingly as ‘the food lover’s haven’. Speaking about the festival’s food offerings this year, Josie Da Bank says: “We have surpassed ourselves this year with the debut of a new foodie alliance; The Feast Collective. We have cherry-picked the cream of current talent to serve you up amazing dishes all weekend – from beautifully spiced Indian and exotic Mexican street foods to local shellfish, crafted cocktails and perfect baking. This is seriously good food and drink from some of our country’s most exciting chefs, cooks and producers.”
Combining music, comedy, literature, food and a whole host of other attractions all in a beautiful location, Camp Bestival 2014 is the perfect addition to any festival goer’s calendar this summer.
