Bestival boasts an enticingly diverse line-up this year. From Duran Duran to the return of electronic duo The Chemical Brothers, to the recently announced Sunday headliner, Missy Elliott, the Summer of Love has it. But stepping away from the headliners is where the real gems of the lineup lie. Records Editor Amy Wootten takes us through the six acts she is particularly looking forward to at this year’s Bestival.
FKA twigs
After her mesmerising performance at Glastonbury, you can’t not be excited for FKA twigs. Her performances combine her ballet talents, beautiful costumes and truly unique sound. With her third EP, Melissa, on the horizon, twigs will be bring exciting things to the Bestival stage.
Tame Impala
Tame Impala‘s third studio album, Currents, has promised to get people dancing. Deviating from their isolated sound to songs with glittering disco influences (inspired by Kevin Parker’s experimentation with mushrooms), the performance may see a new side to the Australian band.
Young Fathers
Young Fathers were crowned this year’s Mercury Prize winners following the release of their debut album Dead, and have since released White Men Are Black Men Too. The hip-hop trio’s latest release sees them stepping up their game, and the racing pace of their music will give an exhilarating performance.
Jungle
Jungle‘s self-titled debut also saw them nominated for 2014’s Mercury Prize. The London-based modern soul musical collective are pumped full of energy, with a diverse instrumentation and upbeat songs like ‘Busy Earnin’ that will get things going at any time of day.
EKKAH
EKKAH are an ultra-cool duo set to play the Invaders of the Future stage. Rebecca and Rebekah combine disco and pop with a sprinkling of R&B. Sure to be glitter a-plenty, EKKAH are ones to watch at Bestival.
SOAK
Another act on the Invaders of the Future stage is Bridie Monds-Watson, better known as SOAK. The 18-year old dropped her debut LP, Before We Forgot How To Dream, in May this year, balancing her angelic vocals with personal themes to create the perfect coming-of-age album.
