One of the country’s most beloved comediennes, Sarah Millican is returning to The Mayflower Theatre in June with a brand new stand-up set.
Renowned for her salacious wit and humorous, homely musings, Millican was once heralded as the nation’s ‘Queen of Comedy’ and with her fourth mainstream stand-up tour – entitled Outsider – it’s easy to see why.
The Mayflower website provides a wistful synopsis of the tour, which reads:
“In the past when you put Sarah Millican outside, she asked things like: ‘Why? Where is the taxi? Do I need a cardie?’ and said things like: ‘There’ll be wasps. I’ve nothing to sit on. Is that poo? Can we go home?’ But things have changed. Now she has outside slippers. She can tell a chaffinch from a tit (hey). But she still can’t tell if it’s an owl or her husband’s asthma. Sarah Millican is venturing outside. Bring a cardie.”
In the same vein as her previous shows, including Chatterbox (2011), Thoroughly Modern Millican (2012) and Home Bird (2014), Millican’s comic oeurvre is likely to cover familiar subjects such as her marriage, her friendships and of course, her gradual journey of finally being a ‘cat and dog mam’.
Millican began her latest tour in late 2015, and has also been performing comedy shows in association with her online women’s magazine, Standard Issue. A strong advocate of feminism and women’s rights to be whatever they bloody well want to be, Millican was also included in BBC Radio 4’s 2013 list of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom.
Since her initial debut at Edinburgh Festival in 2008, Millican has gone from strength to strength; pursuing a successful career on television as well as on stage. Her screen credits include appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats, QI, Mock The Week, Would I Lie To You?, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You. The Geordie comic also fronted her own BAFTA-nominated show, The Sarah Millican Television Programme, for two series from 2012-2013.
Millican’s Southampton show will last for approximately two and a half hours, and will feature an as yet unknown support act.
Sarah Millican will perform at The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on Friday 24th June. The last remaining tickets are available to purchase from either The Mayflower website or Millican’s official mailing list.
