Canterbury, a four piece rock band hailing from Surrey, will be playing The Cellar in Southampton this Thursday, with support from Mallory Knox and Blitz Kids. Having toured alongside Enter Shakari, Twin Atlantic, We Are The Ocean, Deaf Havana and Billy Talent, the band have done very well in building up a strong following in the last few years.
In a bold move, debut album Thank-You was released for free in 2009, with bassist Luke Prebble commenting “I don’t think you can really expect to make people pay for a single or an album if you’re a very small band.” Recorded in late 2007 after the guys had left school, the album wasn’t released until a few years later due to a desire to build up a fan base first. It certainly worked! Second album Heavy in the Day was released in July this year, under their own label Sweet Lime Records. This is a truly musically accomplished album, and builds on the sounds of the first album. It’s independent rock music as it should be, and at it’s best. New E.P. Gloria can now be downloaded from i-Tunes. It’s worthwhile listening, but don’t take my word for it! https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/gloria-single/id578571769
Tickets are expected to sell out, so to avoid disappointment, they can be purchased here. The Edge will be interviewing the band, so if you have any questions you would like to ask them, please comment below.

Ahh a band that deserves so much more recognition than they’re getting! Would love it if you could ask them why they decided to name the band Canterbury (seeing as they’re from Surrey/Hampshire area rather than Kent) and if they ever plan to play in the city…
Sure thing Emma! 🙂
