New York is home to many up and coming indie bands. Skaters, formed early 2012, are no exception to this. Described by NME as ‘basically like everything we wished The Strokes still epitomized’, the three piece have gained critical praise for their previous EP releases, been signed to Warner Bros. Records in early 2013, and have a new album called Manhattan, soon to be released. Their fame is set to be taken to new heights, with their name becoming prominent on an international level. The band is comprised of Michael Ian Cummings (singer), Noah Rubin (drums), and Joshua Hubbard (guitar), and they themselves are said to be influenced by ‘the melodic punk bands of the 70’s and 80’s like Mission of Burma, Devo, and The Cars’.
They kick off their first UK tour on the 27th February, taking fellow upcoming band Drowners with them. Comparable to both The Ramones and The Pixies, the band is likely to turn heads on the UK music scene, in fitting with the rise of young, pizza obsessed grunge rock listeners. It is definitely not a tour to be missed.
