Reading beatmasher Dan le Sac will once again be providing the skewed electro soundtrack to Essex spoken-word maestro Scroobius Pip, as their first UK tour in two years rolls into Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms on the Thursday 6th February. Having temporarily parted ways to produce and release two very different, but equally well-received solo albums, the duo returned with a bang at the end of last year with ‘Stunner‘, the lead single from their new album Repent, Replenish, Repeat.
As the first venue on the tour to completely sell out, the Portsmouth show has the potential to harbour a real sense of intimacy and energy. Add to that the calibre of support, coming from ex-King Blues frontman and politically charged social activist Itch, the room should come alive from the word go. Billy Bragg once sang mixing pop and politics/they ask me what the use is/I offer them embarrassment/ and my usual excuses, but Itch is certainly not a man who is embarrassed about his political conviction. Having made the decision to break away from his band, and with an exciting solo record on the horizon, the live experience and musical social activism he brings to the table could prove to be a rallying start to the evening. What’s the use of mixing pop and politics? I’d say get to the Wedgewood Rooms a bit early on Thursday 6th and find out.
Limited tickets for this show are aviable here.
