Post-hardcore rockers Funeral For A Friend will be coming to The 1865 in Southampton on the eighth leg of a sixteen-date European tour. They finish the UK part of their tour in Southampton before travelling to perform in Cologne, Germany two days later.
Many people may be surprised to find out that guitarist Kris Coombs-Roberts is the only surviving member from the original line-up who formed the band back in 2001. Lead vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye didn’t join until a year later after Michael Davies departed. Overall, the Welsh band have had a total of thirteen official members between their formation and today.
The bands debut album Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation, released back in 2003, was considered one of the landmark screamo records of the Noughties. Three top 20 UK singles came from the album, a major coup for a band of that particular genre. The few albums following their debut record moved away from the heavy sounds of their earlier releases, instead opting to go down a more melodic emo route. Their fifth and sixth studio albums, however, with the most recent coming at the beginning of 2013 in the form of Conduit, have seen the Welsh-rockers take a few steps back towards their routes with a more metal influenced sound.
It will be interesting to see what approach they bring to their shows this year and whether they will play a range from their different-sounding albums.
Funeral For A Friend play The 1865 on the 23rd January 2015. Tickets are available here for £18.50. Support will come from No Bragging Rights and Creeper.
