Anathema are a six-piece British progressive-rock band from Liverpool. The band formed in 1990 with trio of brothers Daniel, Vincent, and Jamie Cavanagh, drummer John Douglas, and ex-vocalist Darren White. Originally the band, then named Pagan Angel, produced death and doom metal. After several years together, and ten albums, Anathema slowly turned away from death and doom metal and began making more alternative and progressive rock music.

The band’s members have been in-and-out over the years, with most current members leaving and returning to the band at some point since its formation. Currently almost all original members are still in the band, the exception being ex-vocalist Darren White, and they are now joined by Lee Douglas, as backing vocals, who joined in 2010.

In recent years they have released albums including We’re Here Because We’re HereWeather Systems which featured the single ‘Untouchable, Pt.2’ and latest LP Distant Satellites.

More recently they have been releasing studio albums through KScope Music, including a full-length produced live DVD, Universal filmed at the Roman theatre of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) inviting the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra to join.

Anathema will be playing at Southampton’s Engine Rooms on the 15th November. Support acts are yet to be confirmed, and tickets can be found here.
