Coming to The Pyramids Centre, Portsmouth on 12th May are UK country stars Ward Thomas, comprised of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas.
The duo, who grew up on a farm in rural Hampshire near Petersfield, cite the Dixie Chicks and Taylor Swift as influences, playing a lively, country-pop style. Their big break came when writing songs in their teens and their singing teacher sent recordings to friends in the home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee. Since then, they have made history by becoming the first ever UK country act to top the UK album chart with their second album Cartwheels last September.
Their debut album, From Where We Stand, achieved critical success earning them the accolade of UK Album of the Year at the British Country Music Awards in 2014, while Cartwheels has, since its release, gained silver platinum status.
The duo’s latest release, A Shorter Story, is an EP comprising of five covers of different genres, ranging from Justin Timberlake’s ‘What Goes Around… Comes Around’ to Kings of Leon’s ‘WALLS’.
Following their month-long tour of the UK, Ward Thomas will then be touring the summer festival scene and accompanying US country superstar Miranda Lambert when she tours the UK and Ireland in August.
As well as visiting Portsmouth during their tour, Ward Thomas will also be playing at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London and at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing.
