Tim Westwood to leave Radio 1

Radio 1 veteran, Tim Westwood, is leaving the station in the latest Saturday Schedule shakeup. The presenter joined the station in 1994 presenting Radio 1’s first ever rap show, and continued presenting on the station for almost 20 years.

Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper spoke about Westwood, saying:

“I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1 – his passion for hip-hop is legendary – I wish him all the very best.”

From the 21st of September, the Saturday night lineup will change to MistaJam at 7pm, Charlie Sloth at 9pm and DJ Target at 11pm. Speaking about taking over Westwood’s coveted spot, Charlie Sloth said:

“Words can’t describe how happy I am, it’s like a dream come true for me and something that I’ve worked towards my whole career, especially to be succeeding a legend like Tim Westwood”

MistaJam also commented on his excitement to be joining the new Saturday schedule and to be taking over Trevor Nelson’s spot, tweeting:

Radio 1Xtra also made the announcement that Clara Amfo will take over from Yasmin Evans to host the 1Xtra Weekend Breakfast Show, also starting the 21st of September.
