Hollywood legend Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Transformers: The Last Knight.

The legendary Oscar-winning actor, most famous for his portrayal as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, will be starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel, as well as 14 year old Isabela Moner, who currently works on Nickelodeon shows.

Hopkins’ involvement in the film was announced by the Transformers official Twitter account which today tweeted: ‘The man, the myth, the legend – help us welcome Sir Anthony Hopkins to the #transformers universe.’ It is currently unknown as to what role Hopkins will play exactly, but his acting pedigree and skills means he should easily be able to blend into either the Autobots or the Decepticons.

Transformers: The Last Knight is expected to mark a watershed moment in the franchise’s history as the last film to be directed by controversial director Michael Bay, but the franchise is expected to continue further with more sequels planned in the future. A spin-off film featuring the popular robotic protagonist, Bumblebee, is also in the works.

Transformers: The Last Knight is produced by Paramount Pictures and is set to come to UK cinemas on 23rd June 2017. Watch the teaser trailer below.
