The Moomins may be returning in 2019 for a new series, following the launch of a crowdfunding campaign on the entrepreneurial site, Indiegogo.
Gutsy Animation, the Finnish firm who set up the campaign, hope to raise $200,000 in order to create thirteen 22-minute episodes based on the original books by Tove Jansson. By donating, you can receive exclusive mugs, bags, and a digital copy of the first season, as well as the chance for your voice or art to be featured in the series if you donate larger amounts of money.
“The series will be made using state-of-the-art CGI technology combined with more traditional hand-drawn techniques” say Gutsy in a statement. “Each episode is based on an original storyline or incident from the novels and comic strips.”
The team, which holds one Oscar, two Emmys, and a Bafta award between them, added that they: “want this to be the most faithful version of Tove Jansson’s stories yet committed to screen”.
