Sivu – ‘Miracle (Human Error)’

0

‘Miracle (Human Error)’ is the new single from James Page, aka Sivu. This is the follow-up to the acclaimed Can’t Stop Now EP which received widespread support from the likes of Radio 1, XFM and 6 Music. This new single shows a new dimension to Sivu’s music, with his trademark baroque-pop style being mixed with more aggressive instrumental layers.

The mesmerizing music video begins with the question and answer, ‘Are you afraid of death? Because I am too’ and from that moment you can’t look away. Directed by Georgia Hudson (who’s worked with the likes of Klaxons and MØ), the video perfectly compliments Sivu’s lyrics, which he’s said are about  ‘feeling small in the world’.

The single itself is haunting. Elegant string lines enhance the other inter-weaving instrumental lines, and are effectively used to help build anticipation in the pre-chorus. These strings, as well as the subtle dynamic and instrumental crescendos, further add to Sivu’s lyrics, especially in the bridge section where the texture suddenly thins and as Sivu sings ‘Are you afraid of death? Because I am too.’ Here the sense of feeling small in a huge world Sivu has said he’s trying to convey in the lyrics is perfectly translated in the music.

This is anthemic, sophisticated pop music at it’s best.
