First act for SUSU’s Stateside Ball announced

Last week it was announced that SUSU would be throwing a ball to celebrate the end of exams, and today we can reveal the first act to be announced, The Mariachis.

Best known for their appearance in the Doritos TV adverts, The Mariachis will perform on the TexMex Stage, located in The Bridge. The Freshers’ Stateside Ball may be marketed as an American themed event, but The Mariachis will take The Bridge across the border, delivering a full hour and a half of pop classics with a Mexican twist.

Some of their most well known tracks from the television adverts include covers of East 17’s ‘Stay Another Day’ and Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me’. The South American five-piece played at Wireless Festival last year along with numerous performances at clubs and universities across the UK.

The Freshers’ Stateside Ball which will take place on Saturday 1st February is set to follow a similar format to Freshers’ Ball by using several of the Union venues.

The event is the headline part of Welcome Back Week which aims to provide several special activities to celebrate the first week back at university. JCR events, Laughter Lounge and karaoke will all take place from the 27th January. The final event will be a screening of the Superbowl in The Stag’s on Sunday 2nd February.

Early bird tickets for The Freshers’ Stateside Ball are on sale now through the SUSU Box Office, priced at £8. Standard tickets will cost £10.
