It was announced this morning on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 Breakfast show that Sam Smith has come first in the acclaimed Sound of 2014 list. This is an annual poll voted on by over 170 industry figures to find the freshest new musical talent. Smith has joined the ranks of Ellie Goulding, Adele and last years victors Haim who are all previous winners of the poll.
Smith is best known for his collaborations with Disclosure (on single ‘Latch’) and Naughty Boy (who’s single ‘La La La’ which features Smith went to UK number one).
Smith also won the Brit Critics’ Choice Award, making him the fourth act to win both the accolades, the other three being Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Adele. Sam Smith was also included in numerous ‘2014’ lists, including iTunes ‘New Artists for 2014’ list and MTV’s ‘Brand New for 2013’.

Sam’s debut album, In the Lonely Hour will be released on May 26th through Capitol records, and single ‘Money on My Mind’ will be out on February 16th.
