This year the 18th of March sees the return of the Takedown Festival, making its debut at its new home, our own Southampton University. The line-up boasts an incredibly impressive roster of bands currently representing the best the UK underground has to offer. Spread over four stages across the campus, a multitude of artists from Skindred to Evarose will be giving their Southampton their all, in a bid to show why the UK rock scene is very much alive and kicking.
The day will provide the perfect opportunity to check out plenty of up-and-coming artists, climaxing with some of the best live acts around. A recent show in Southampton saw Lower Than Atlantis with the crowd in the palm of their hand, playing raucous punk anthems with massive sing-alongs and plenty of stage diving. It won’t be the first time ragga-rock veterans Skindred have played the university; back in 2009 they played an unforgettable show, every member of the crowd bouncing in unison along to their unique blend of genres, with charismatic Benji Webbe at the helm of the whole operation with aplomb.
Bury Tomorrow will be flying the flag for Southampton with their crushing metalcore for those with heavier tastes, with Essex boys Fei Comodo providing an equally heavy, albeit more melodic sound. In total over 30 bands will be playing. With so much on offer for an incredibly reasonable ticket price, you really would be a fool to miss out. Chances are, it will be a day to remember. Southampton won’t know what hit it.
The Edge also has two pairs of tickets to give away! These can be yours if you can answer this question. What popular UK festival is not occurring in 2012?
