The name of Cavalera is almost sacred within metal circles, so to hear that Soulfly (the band formed by Max Cavalera following his departure from Sepultura in 1996 and now featuring his son Zyon on drums) are playing at Talking Heads early next month is exciting news to say the least.
Though their lineup has been fairly fluid over their 17 years together, each of their 9 albums has met with both critical and (relative) commercial acclaim, particularly in Europe. Their latest album Savages released last year, was another all-out assault of groove-heavy metal that continued in the thrashier direction they have been taking over the past few years, but still retaining the world music influences that have become their trademark. Some of the new tracks, lead track ‘Bloodshed’ for instance, sound like they were made with the specific intention of inciting frenzies amongst live crowds, so it will be great to experience them in this way. This is an amazing opportunity to see a legendary band in an intimate setting, and definitely not one to be missed.
Soulfly will play the Talking Heads on 03/03/14. Tickets are £15adv and are available here.
