Canadian 5-piece alternative indie rock band July Talk are around halfway through their international tour. Just days ahead of the release of their new album, ‘Touch’, they will be popping into Manchester’s Sound Control on 14th September, before heading to London for the following evening’s apocalypse.
Toronto, 2012, boy meets girl in a bar and can’t get this girl’s voice out of his head. Not for nothing did Peter Dreimanis hunt down Leah Fay, and the singers soon embarked upon the creative escapade that became July Talk. Along with drummer Danny Miles, bassist Josh Warburton and guitarist Ian Docherty, they have been touring tirelessly, and somehow finding time to record a new album, and film a fair few brilliant videos to boot. Just a year after receiving Alternative Album of the Year at the Canadian JUNO Awards in 2015, the band have produced the new album that plays testament to the growing coherence and stylistic integrity of this provocative and strong band. Where their eponymous debut EP was an exploration of their style, new album ‘Touch’ seems to, in some capacity, serve as a definition.
With all-out live performances, and with a more rough and ready feel evident in the new album, their gigs can only serve to amplify the riotous potential that is already sitting there on the tracks.
