Partly thanks to their Mercury Prize award for their album ‘V2.0’ (2014), and partly to their irreverent attitude and their eagerness for musical experiments, GoGo Penguin is today one of the most remarkable trios in England. Their concerts are a mix of many different sounds and rhythms not usually found together; rich piano melodies, aggressive bass lines and mechanical but complex drumming are their trademarks. And all this with a bit of electronic and another bit of psychedelia.
Being without doubt one of the main must-see of the season, GoGo Penguin will prove they are a perfect example to show that British jazz is far from being in the doldrums. Just like other groups such as Phronesis or the Neil Cowley Trio, they are the future and the present of it. Their Mercury Prize was just a confirmation of their status.
GoGo Penguin will be touring throughout November and December, tickets can be found here
