‘Wrecking Ball‘, the latest single by American singer Miley Cyrus has topped the UK singles chart this week, beating Eminem’s new single ‘Berzerk’. She became the first artist this year to have a Number 1 single and album at the same time. Her album Bangerz beat Chase and Status’ new album Brand New Machine into second place. Speaking to the BBC today, Cyrus said :”I truly appreciate the love I’m getting from the UK… I can’t wait to be back in the UK next month.”
Cyrus has been at the centre of controversy in recent weeks, following her performance with Robin Thicke at the VMAs. The video for ‘Wrecking Ball’ has also attracted widespread criticism. In recent weeks, Cyrus’ behaviour has sparked a debate about overt sexualisation in the music industry which has involved fellow singers Sinead O’Connor and Annie Lennox.
Elsewhere in the charts, Connor Maynard’s new single ‘R U Crazy’ debuted at Number 4 with The Saturdays’ ‘Disco Love’ entering at number 5. James Blunt achieved his first Top Ten single in six years with ‘Bonfire Heart’.
Eminem’s new single ‘Berzerk’ will be featured on his upcoming album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which is due to be released on the 5th of November.
