Rock Band 4 has been announced by Harmonix Music Systems, the long-time creator of the series, and it will release on Playstation 4 and Xbox One later in the year.
This will be the first game in the series since 2010 and Harmonix Chief Creative Officer has said that demand for a new game has been steadily growing over the years and they felt that it was the right time to reintroduce the series.
All previously purchased songs will be available to download but no on-disc songs will be available due to licensing reasons. However, these songs will only be transferable between PS4/PS3 and Xbox 360/Xbox One. Also, Harmonix do not know whether old guitars and drum sets will be cross compatible due to the systems having different wireless controller communication protocols and they are still in conversation with Microsoft and Sony with the aim of being given permission to develop adapters that would be sold separately.
Finally, Harmonix do not plan to release yearly versions of Rock Band because they do not want to over-saturate the market, as they did before, and they feel that the new game can consistently grow over the years with new content being released on each console’s store.
Rock Band 4 will be release later in 2015 on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
