Activision have announced Guitar Hero Live, a relaunch for the once popular game series. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock was released in 2010 and is the last game to be released in the series due to declining sales.
Developed by FreeStyleGames, the studio responsible for the DJ Hero games, Guitar Hero Live will release on new-gen and old-gen consoles as well as select mobile platforms. After Rock Band 4 was announced by Harmonix last month it seems everyone thinks it is time for music games to return.
Guitar Hero Live will be a complete revamp of the series and will require an all-new guitar. Rather than five differently coloured buttons, the guitar will feature six buttons, three black ones above three white ones. However, by far the biggest change is a switch to a first-person perspective, in-front of a real life crowd that react to how well you are playing. They will boo if you miss notes and cheer if you play long note streaks. Also, the band you are playing alongside will act in a similar way. It is difficult to explain how impressive a feature this is but the trailer that Activision have released conveys it excellently.
Finally, it was announced that Guitar Hero Live will released with “hundreds” of songs as well as the ability to play interactive music videos that refresh regularly.
Guitar Hero Live will release this autumn on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and mobile devices.
