The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Wonder Woman has found a new director.
Patty Jenkins has taken up the directorial reins that were dropped by Michelle MacLaren. This is interesting for two reasons. One, Jenkins has already had experience with superhero projects going south. She was the original director of Thor: The Dark World before creative differences forced her departure. Had it come to pass, it would have made her the female director in charge of the largest budget historically given to women (reported to be $170 Million).
Secondly, will Jenkins be able to hold onto the role? Since her feature film Monster (2003) she has had great difficulty with a second film project. Despite several episodes of TV under her belt (Entourage, The Killing) she has yet to have a second feature film. Her work on both Thor: The Dark World and Jane Got A Gun fell victim to ‘creative differences’ and disagreements. Given the reasons cited for MacLaren’s departure just a few days ago, can Jenkins hold onto the DC gig?
Warner Bros. will have to hope so, as Wonder Woman is due out in 2017 . Gal Gadot is attached to star.
