Since May, American actor Chris Pine has been in talks with DC about potentially joining their upcoming Wonder Woman film, as well as being their rumoured first candidate to be the new Green Lantern.
But now, according to The Wrap, Pine has closed a multi-picture deal for the DC Universe and will officially star opposite Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman’s love interest.
It has been heavily implied that Pine will play the role of Steve Trevor – a US intelligence agent who in the comics, has been affiliated with both the Justice League and government security force ARGUS. The character made his first appearance in the pages of DC Comics in 1941 and has long been a love interest for the Amazonian warrior Diana Prince.
It would also seem that the rumours about Pine potentially becoming the new Green Lantern were merely a smokescreen to confuse his dedication to the Wonder Woman film. Pine is currently filming Star Trek Beyond, and has reportedly signed on for a fourth film.
Monster’s Patty Jenkins is set to direct Wonder Woman, following the title character’s debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next year.
Wonder Woman will open in UK cinemas at some point in 2017. Catch your first glimpse of Gadot’s female superhero in the trailer below.
