Trekkies will be able to enjoy Star Trek Beyond on a bigger-than-big screen, as it has been announced that the movie will arrive in IMAX in July 2016.
Director Justin Lin, who is replacing J.J. Abrams for the third movie of the rebooted series, said: ” IMAX provides a one-of-a-kind movie going to experience to audiences all over the world. I am excited to bring the newest journey into the Star Trek universe to its screen.”
The movie will arrive just in time for the 50th anniversary of the TV series, which first aired on 8th September 1966 and aired for three seasons.
Whilst filming, the cast paid tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original TV series and films for over five decades, in a video for the Omaze Charity. Stars including Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba offered a salute to Nimoy on the bridge of the USS Enterprise.
It was also recently announced that a new Star Trek TV series is set to premiere in January 2017.
