A David Bowie tribute concert that is set to take place in New York this week is to be streamed live for all to see.
Featuring performances from Pixies, Blondie, Patti Smith, Michael Stripe, The Flaming Lips and others, the show will take place at Radio City Music Hall on 1st April, with organizers of the group ‘The Music of David Bowie’ teaming up with Skype to stream the concert. In return, they will request donations that will be given to various music and art charities.
‘The Music of David Bowie’ is a show that has been running for the past 12 years at Carnegie Hall. This year’s line-up was announced hours before Bowie’s shocking death.
Michael Dorf, promoter of the show, had hoped that Bowie may attend the show before finding out that he had passed: “From a promoter’s standpoint, the show sold out in two hours – all 2,800 tickets – and that is an unprecedented thing for anything I’ve ever experience.”
“But it’s all kind of a very bittersweet success in the sense that it’s now a tribute to someone who’s passed versus a tribute to someone who was probably going to be in attendance.”
