FX announces Sons of Anarchy spin-off

The long-awaited Sons of Anarchy spinoff is beginning to come to fruition, after a year of talks from both FX and SOA creator Kurt Sutter.

The spin-off, entitled Mayans MC, will obviously be focused on SAMCRO’s rival Latino biker gang. The bikers, who refer to themselves as the Assassins of God, were among the number of SAMCRO’s enemies within the original show.

Calling it a ‘dark family drama’, Sutter will be pairing with Elgin James to create the series. James is known best for his work behind Little Birds and the upcoming drama, Low Riders.

Sutter also released a statement in regards to the announcement, stating: “I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”

Many fans may be disappointed that this news isn’t about Sutter’s rumoured SAMCRO prequel series, with Sutter stressing that the timing of it really depended on the success of his new medieval drama, The Bastard Executioner –which has now been cancelled. So maybe the return of the Mayans may also see the past uncovered for SAMCRO.
