Joss Whedon has enlisted the help of his ‘superhero’ friends as he bids to try and stop Donald Trump winning the election.
The Save the Day campaign is part of a new initiative encouraging American citizens to vote in the upcoming Presidential elections. The Save the Day website reads: “We are a short-form production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act. That every voice in this wonderfully diverse nation should, and must, be heard. That the only thing that can save democracy is the act that defines it. We are committed to fighting the apathy, cynicism, and honest confusion that keeps citizens from using their vote. And to reminding an increasingly out-of-touch and compromised set of representatives that they are answerable to the people they were hired to serve.”
Although the video does not name any candidates by name, or explicitly reference Trump or Clinton, Don Cheadle (War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) states in a video marked ‘Important’ that Americans cannot give power to: “a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society.” Although it doesn’t specifically name him, this is clearly aimed at Donald Trump.
Whedon discussed the initiative in a Buzzfeed interview, saying: “There is almost nobody that I wouldn’t approach to say, “If you can pitch in, do it now,’ before adding, “It was pretty much the same spiel to everybody: ‘Doing a voting PSA to help get out the vote and stop orange Muppet Hitler.”
Joss Whedon is currently producing Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD series 4, which premieres soon. Watch the Save the Day campaign video below:
